Rangers paid the penalty for missed chances when they took on Western League Exmouth Town in the St Luke’s Cup on Tuesday night.
We had the lion’s share of the play but Lady Luck was against us when it came to scoring. Firstly we had a goal chalked off after 20 minutes by the Assistant for an apparent infringement on their keeper, Ethan Phillips then hit the bar and then followed that up with another effor which just cleared the bar with the Exmouth keeper beaten. The keeper then brought off a great save from an Ash Donohue free kick. All this time Rob Holme in the Rangers goal was not much more than a spectator.
Exmouth came more into the game in the second half but chances for either side were few and far between. Ash Donohue missed a great chance on the hour but prodded his shot just wide but just when it looked like a penalty shoot out was going to be on the cards up popped an Exmouth forward to head home the winner at the back post. We almost got an equaliser in the dying seconds when sub Elliott Perrett set up Ash Donohue with a run on goal but his effort was blocked.
Liam was not too down after the game “If we can carry on playing like that in the league I will be happy. I know they rested a few players but we were also missing a couple I thought Kai Fisher did well along Dan Culling who also excellent as they kept a firm grip on Jordan Harris and Ace High. I was also pleased with young Elliott Perrett’s contribution when he came on as sub.”
