A Good Friday fixture for Cullompton’s last league game of the season, as they welcomed Elburton to Adopstar Park. It was scheduled to be a 14:00 start, but travel problems for the visitors meant the kick off had to be delayed to 14:30.
Heavy rain was falling as the game began, bringing testing conditions for both sides.
Cullompton started the game brightly, and could have taken an early lead, when from a great ball across the face of the goal, Lewis Hill failed to score.
Elburton found it difficult to get into the game, as Cullompton continued to pressure their goal.
After 20 minutes Cullompton took the lead, when a cross from Will Pinnick was helped over the line by Cameron Webb.
Elburton’s first meaningful attack, saw their centre forward through on goal, bringing a smart save from Finn Croft.
With half time looming, Lewis Hill chased down a long ball out of defence, controlling the ball, he calmly curled a left footed shot into the far corner of the net to make it 2:0. Soon after the referee blew for halftime.
As the second half began, Cullompton hoped to continue their first half dominance. However, out of nowhere, Elburton scored, when a hopeful cross into the Cullompton penalty area was headed home.
Buoyed on from scoring, Elburton were looking dangerous, and began to dominate the game, though without threatening the Cullompton goal.
With the Cullompton defence being superbly marshaled by Craig Woodman and George Russell, they gradually grew back into the game.
The manager made several substitutions and Cullompton once again began to dominate the game, creating and spurning good chances.
It was not until the 87th minutes before Cullompton increased their lead, when Harry Varnals latched onto a loose clearance to hammer home from 20 yards.
From the restart, Cullompton maintained their form, and were able to close out the game with no further goas.
