Cullompton welcomed Bovey Tracey to Adoptstar Park on Saturday.
From the kick off, Bovey Tracey showed that they were looking to take control of the game, with both wingers causing problems down the flanks.
Cullompton though were able to block any attempts at their goal.
It was Cullompton who had the first chance when Lewis Hill had a shot from the edge of the area well saved by the Bovey keeper.
Both sides were content in hitting long balls, and it was from such a ball that Bovey had their best chance, hitting the bar and seeing new keeper, Jim Weeks, saving the follow up shot.
Apart from forcing a succession of corners, Cullompton were struggling to find their game, and with wayward passing, they weren’t able to create any real chances, so not worrying the Bovey keeper.
It was Bovey who took the lead when Craig Woodman was adjudged to have fouled a Bovey forward in the area. From the resulting penalty, the Bovey skipper sent Jim Weeks the wrong way to open the scoring.
A blow for Cullompton to concede right on the stroke of half time.
The second half began with Bovey dominating the early play, although without threatening the Cullompton goal.
As the half progressed Cullompton stepped up a gear, pressing the Bovey defence, looking for an equaliser. To Bovey’s credit, they were up to the task, being well organised, snuffing out any chances.
Cullompton were looking short of ideas, and it was Bovey Tracey looking more likely to score on the break. Jim Weeks in the Cullompton goal had to stay alert, making a couple of good one on one saves, when Bovey did counter attack.
At the final whistle, Bovey Tracey deserved their victory. Cullompton will be disappointed with this performance and must step up when league leaders Sidmouth are the visitors next Saturday.
Final score. Cullompton 0 Bovey Tracey 1
